Welcome To
The Bro Code!

The Coding Newsletter That's Way More Inclusive Than The Name Suggests 🤷

Learn coding in the most effective, least boring way possible... We'll build cool projects you can immediately add to your resume... understand concepts through fun examples... and even tell some wild stories that will make the lessons fun, help you learn faster, and remember more stuff better.

My name's GC, your new bro 👋 I've been coding for a decade now and in those 10 years, I worked with THE Olympic Games... built a platform used by UEFA in Euro 2024... wrote lots and lots of Python at CERN... built and sold a successful SaaS that can be found in 5-star hotels competing with the likes of HILTON... got approached by Microsoft... built 7 and published 5 mobile apps that have over 20,000 downloads and appeared on TV, Radio, Newspapers, Blogs and even YouTube videos... and discussed with the ministry of environment and energy for an app idea I had...

Uh oh! You Kept Scrolling!

I knew I should have used window.addEventListener(wheelEvent, preventDefault, wheelOpt);to prevent you from scorlling...

Well, there's no point in crying over spilled coffee now...

You're probably not convinced if you should join this newsletter yet.

I get it.

But at the same time...

I really want you in.

I think you'll love it here.

So, let me bribe you show you why it would be a great idea to join The Bro Code

I'll Show You How To Build A Resume That Will Stand Out and Get Noticed By FAANG Companies

I had to send over 400 resumes before I got my first coding job.

I received rejection after rejection after rejection.

(Most of them in the form of ghosting, which felt even worse)

But after I used my unconventional approach to building a resume, I started getting traction.

I got invited to interviews.

I got coding tests.

I got praised for my resume.

And finally, I got an offer!

(Actually, I got 3 offers, but could only choose 1)

Soon after, I started working for The Olympic Games.

After that, I joined CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research.

It's the world's largest nuclear and particle physics laboratory.

If you've never heard of it, the simplest way to describe this achievement is like joining the NASA of Europe.

And after that, Microsoft approached me by themselves and invited me for an interview.

Which I declined 🙃

If you want to grow your coding skills and resume to a level that not only gets noticed...

But also allows you to say 'No' to companies like Microsoft without second thoughts or regrets...

And all of that while actually enjoying the process...

You can do that inside The Bro Code.

These Are The Most Fun, Whacky, Flat-out HILARIOUS Coding Emails You'll Ever Find - Bar None!

I was searching for coding newsletters to join.

And the results I found are the reason I created this newsletter.

Every single one of them would either send a bunch of random links to:
- The documentation of functions- Version updates- And the occasional blog post...

Or it would be a GIANT wall of text that was basically a semi-plagiarized version of the documentation.

Do you realize how much these two approaches SUCK?

If I wanted to check the documentation, I'd check the documentation.

What you need from a newsletter is a way to make learning easier, better, more fun.

Something that will get you coming back to learn more.

NOT something that's a chore and you dread every time you start.

The Bro Code is a solution to that.

With some of the most fun you'll ever have while checking your inbox.

While still using the best and most efficient ways to teach you coding, upgrade your CV and land your next software engineer position.

I've done this before with a copywriting newsletter I used to run (and I'm in the process of reviving right now).

And it was pretty crazy if I do say so myself.

But it's better if you listen to my readers, instead.

"You will be my email-guy someday"

"Excellent email, GC!"

"Great email! Love the storytelling"

"That's next level shyte"

"Great email, GC.
Setting the tone early for what your subscribers can expect. Love it"

"Great email"

"Let me know how the dog pee mixed with lemon goesssss 😂"Note: We do get a little freaky with the content sometimes 🙃

"Great email btw"

I'm Actually A Pretty Damn Good Teacher (and Writer)

Unlike pretty much every other coder out there 😈

There is this common misconception that the most skilled people are the ones most qualified to teach.

This Couldn't Be Further From The Truth!

And that's especially the case in coding and tech writing in general.

The smartest, most skilled, best coders tend to not make good teachers.

Because they have a certain understanding of algorithmic thinking that the average person lacks.

And this makes it hard for them to transfer their knowledge successfully.

The stereotype of the super smart guy talking gibberish that no one understands (like Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory) is a stereotype for a reason.

If that was really the case, the ones with the biggest, best, most popular newsletters would be Computer Science PhDs,

And I've proven time and time again that I'm a great teacher

I started teaching early on during my coding career.

During my first year of university, actually.

I used to be one of the first in my friend group to pass every coding-related subject.

And I used to get some of the highest grades too.

So, then, I would gather my friends that didn't pass and I would teach them the subject myself.

After that, they'd go back and one after another would all go on to pass without fail (no pun intended)

But, I probably know what you're thinking.

"These were all college-level Computer Science students that already knew how to code"

Don't worry, I gotchu.

During my university studies, I took a path through which you'd also be a certified teacher when you get your degree.

I took classes dedicated to teaching you how to teach (ironic, isn't it?)

I even taught informatics to a middle school class.

And you know I'm all about making learning fun.

So, I did what was necessary to make sure the lessons would be fun, memorable, and the best part of their school day.

At some point, I had to teach them about IF statements.

Boring by themselves.

But I found a way to showcase how cool and important they are.

I created a choose-your-own-adventure RPG, brought it to class, and used it to show what IF statements can really do.

But that's not all!

I used to be part of a Python-obsessed university group.

And (among other projects), we ran a couple of workshops where we taught Python and the basics of programming to high school students interested in learning how to code.

You can bet your mechanical keyboard that my part of the presentation was the most fun, engaging, and memorable part of the workshop.

And, of course, the parts of Python and programming that stayed with them the most.

I know A Thing or Two About Coding Apps That Are Actually Used in The Real World

And soon you will, too

I wrote my first line of code a bit over a decade ago.

And since then, I've coded dozens of apps using more languages and technologies than a polyglot android.

From websites, to desktop apps, to mobile apps, to games (both PC and mobile), to plugins, I've done it all.

But let's take it from the top.

First up:

Romanize:
A Sublime Text Editor plugin

This was the first app of mine that was actually useful to people and not just a passion project of mine.

It was a simple plugin.

It searched your document and changed all (or your selected) numbers from numeral (eg 1, 2, 3) to Roman (eg I, IV, XII) and vice versa.

Next up:

WakeStream

This one's a desktop app that would launch by itself the moment you start your computer.

The first time you opened the app, you'd have to log into it with your Twitch.tv credentials.

Then, every time you started your computer, it would check which of your favorite streamers were live at the moment...

And then, it would open each livestream in a new tab on your default browser.

Then, you could just sit back, relax, and watch your favorite stream.

Honorable Mention:
Python Snake Game

This doesn't really count because it didn't get published anywhere, but it was a fun little project.

And I added a new difficulty level called 'insanity' that made it even more fun.

No one in my friend group could actually get more than 5 points before losing.

Anyway.

The next one was super fun and wholesome:

The Path of The 4 Horizons:
A Choose-Your-Own-Adventure RPG

I created this RPG game when I was teaching informatics to a class of middle-schoolers.

My goal was to teach the kids how important and cool 'IF' statements can be.

And I believe that learning should be as interesting and fun as possible.

(something that IF statements are NOT, at first glance)

So, I spiced things up.

You start the game by choosing 1 of the 4 classes: Warrior, Thief, Wizard, or Princess.

From there, you would embark on a different adventure based on your class.

And every step along the way, you would choose how YOU want to continue, which changed the way the story unfolded.

This was the last small project I built.

Because then I took things to a whole new level 😈

[Name Redacted]
A Room Service / Food Ordering / Appointment Booking Platform

In 2020, a good friend of mine and I built a food-ordering platform that is STILL being used by multiple 5-star hotels, beach bars, cafes, and restaurants as their main way of room service/table orders.

This included the web client, web server (which we also had to deploy, obviously), payment integration, desktop app for management by the business owners, and more.

We even partnered with one of the dragons from the famous TV show Dragon's Den.

(And by partnered, I mean we took him as a client. No percentages given)

I also went through...

The Mobile App Mashup

The Mobile App Mashup was an era in my life where I wanted to improve my then-nonexistent mobile app programming skills.

During that time, I built all sorts of apps, ranging from mobile games and useful tools, all the way to instructional apps and booking platforms.

They've gathered 20,000+ downloads and have appeared on the TV, Radio, Blogs, the freakin' News and even YouTube videos.

I published 6 of them and created 2 more that never saw the light of day, including an exact clone of Instagram and an animation-heavy quiz that helped you choose what kind of alcohol to drink tonight.

And right now we're at a point where...

My Apps Are Serving The Greek Military

Right now, I'm serving my mandatory military service.

I showed them my coding skills and now I'm working with them on some very cool apps and automations.

But that's all I can really say on this topic right now.

So...

You can now see that when I say we'll build real-world projects, I mean it.

I've done it over and over and over again.

And you can do it too if you join The Bro Code

I Know How To Write What People Love To Read

For the past 2 years, I've also been working as a professional writer.

I Started as a fiction author

I've written 3 full-length novels.

2 personal serialized novels under a pen name and 1 ghostwritten YA novel.

Out of the 2 serialized novels, 1 of them got 50,000 reads in its first month.

The other--while not as popular--got exclusively 5-star reviews, with no exceptions.

I also wrote a children's book, 2 video game storylines, and a short film among other, smaller projects.

And then transitioned to copywriting

As a copywriter, I wrote all kinds of deliverables, like blog posts, YouTube video scripts, landing pages, sales pages, newsletters, ebooks, courses, Facebook & TikTok ads, social media posts, and more

And I did it in all kinds of different industries, like:
- Sleep Care- B2B SaaS products- Coaching & Consulting services- Information Products on fitness and dating- Bracelets and Accessories- Spirituality- Restaurants- Audiobook services- Skincare products- And even collectibles.

It's safe to say I know how to write things people want to read.

But you can see for yourself inside The Bro Code:
